Our charter boat is a 46′ Whiticar built in 1974, is now back
fishing the Florida Keys year round. She has been properly
maintained over the years; a beautiful boat and one of the
most seaworthy boats out there! Repowered several years
ago with twin 490 Cummings, cruise 26 knots, Air
Conditioning, inside head, and a new salon inside. On the
bridge full electronics and always a great Skipper! The
cockpit holds three chairs along with two live wells, a
transom fish box as well as a 300lb ice box to keep all your
fish nice and cold.

Captain Dan Matthews
In business for over 36 years, same boat and same captain since 1976. We offer reasonable rates and a top notch
crew. This is not a business owned by some independently wealthy, retired or relocated person, the captain is not a
hired hand, this is a professional captain with a lifetime of experience fishing the Keys who owns and operates his
own boat. We want to take you fishing, this is all we do, all year, every year. Our charter boat is a 1964 Hatteras
powered with twin John Deere diesels (we use biofuel, it has no diesel fumes), top quality tackle and a vast array of
modern electronics. You will catch fish! And have fun doing it with our friendly professional crew. Our rates are much
less than the typical charter in the Florida Keys but our catching isn't. No one wants to catch fish more than we do!
Come get in on the fun! If you need more than one boat for your group we can arrange that too with other owner
operated vessels. If you prefer a larger boat (i.e. more expensive) I will be happy to recommend other good captains.
Capt. Robert A. Mathias, Jr.
Captain Rick Rodriguez is a full time Professional Deep Sea Sportfishing Guide, specializing in fishing in

foot Harris with a full tower and Garmin electronics to provide you every opportunity to catch more fish.
Captain Rick provides the ice, plus cleans and bags your catch for you! Just bring your cooler!
Fishing Trips are available for 1 to 6 anglers. Split charters can be arranged.

including Dorado(Mahi-Mahi or Dolphin as known in South Florida), Yellowfin Tuna, Blackfin

South Florida from Haulover Inlet all the way to Marathon. He has fished and worked in

Although I fish a lot of tournaments and experienced anglers, one of the things I love to do is take kids fishing.
Fishing is one of the best activities you can share with a child. Showing a child how to use a rod and reel and
actually catch fish provides lessons in patience, discipline and a respect for nature, along with offering loads
of fun, excitement and a sense of accomplishment.
I’ve found over the years that kids like the boat almost as much as the fishing. So, children are allowed to help
me pilot the boat from up in the helm to and back from the fishing grounds. Be sure to bring a camera to get a
picture of your child steering the 50’ charter boat!
If there are children in your party please mention it when booking so we can plan your trip to meet their needs.

Atlantic Sailfish -Spindlebeak
Probably the best known gamefish in the Florida Keys this fighter can reach a weight of 100 pounds; but averages
around 50. He is generally found in water over six fathoms. However, it is not uncommon to find him hunting food in
the shallow waters of the reef. Fall and winter are the best times of year to tangle with a sailfish, but they are caught
Atlantic sailfish are dark blue to dark blue-violet on top, though when excited they become brighter, attaining a color
some call “electric blue.” The sides are brown-blue fading to silver-white on the belly. The primary color of the sail
dorsal is steel blue. The upper body and the main dorsal fin are sprinkled with light and dark blue spots. The sides
often have powder blue or blue-gray vertical stripes. Many Pacific sailfish have a gold or copper tint to the gill covers,
especially when fatigued. Averages 30-60 pounds, but many under 30 pounds and a few up to 100 pounds are also
taken. Potential maximum is less than 150 pounds in the Atlantic Ocean. World record 221 pounds.

Captain John Baar
Did You Know?
The Atlantic and Pacific Blue Marlin look nearly the same in their appearance. The upper and rear portions of the
body are dark, brilliant blue in color, and that includes the dorsal fin. The lower portion has a silver white color. In many
cases, there are up to 15 vertical stripes, consisting of small dots and narrow bars, also in a brilliant blue color. These
stripes become quite bright when the fish is ready to strike or when hooked, but they rapidly disappear when the fish
is removed from the water. The remaining blue marlin fins are generally black-brown in color and the anal fins have a
bit of silver-white tinge. The principal way to distinguish blue marlin from their relatives is to examine the shape of the
dorsal fin tip, which is more pointed on blue marlin. In addition, the spots found on the fins of most marlin are absent
on the blue marlin.
It is a blue marlin that the fisherman battles in Ernest Hemingway's classic novella The Old Man and the Sea.
The techniques I use to target such fish include: drifting; slow, medium, and fast trolling; anchoring over certain hot
spots and deploying live and dead bait, while chumming the water to lure your trophy catch to bite one of our lines.
When on anchor we cover all the water column. We also fly kites for sailfish, larger kingfish and tuna. Another popular
technique is deep dropping, both with conventional and electric reels.
Islamorada fishing is among the best anywhere, and offshore charters in the
Florida Keys provide the thrill of a lifetime. I, Captain Merv Finch, offer deepsea
fishing at its best on the fertile waters of the Keys, on the comfortable fishing rigged
44' sportfisherman charter boat. Islamorada, the Sportfishing capital of the world,
offers a tremendous variety of deep sea and reef fishing options all year, and our
Florida Keys fishing charters target species such as as dolphin (mahi-mahi),
sailfish, grouper, snapper, swordfish, wahoo, tuna, cobia, marlin and amberjacks.

Capt. Don Reichert
Did You Know?
Atlantic swordfish are one of the fastest and largest predators in the ocean. They have a streamlined body that allows
them to swim at high speeds, up to 50 mph. They grow rapidly, reaching a maximum size of about 1,165 pounds
(although the average size caught in the fishery is 50-200 pounds).
Swordfish feed on a variety of fish and invertebrates such as squid. They capture their prey by slashing their bill back
and forth, stunning or injuring the prey in the process. They have developed unique characteristics, such as special
eye muscles and a heat exchange system, that allow them to swim in deep cold water in search of prey. Swordfish
feed at the top of the food chain and are rarely preyed upon by other animals. Sharks and larger predatory fishes
sometimes eat juvenile swordfish.
Swordfish have a long, flattened bill that looks like a sword, as their name implies. They have a stout, rounded body
and large eyes. Their first dorsal (back) fin is tall and crescent shaped; the second is much smaller. Their anal fins
(on their belly) are similar in shape to the dorsal fins but are smaller. They have a broad, crescent shaped tail. Their
color is darkest on top, generally black or brown, and fades to a lighter color below.

A seamount is a mountain rising from the ocean floor that does not reach to the surface of the ocean. Seamounts often project upwards into shallower
zones . These areas are more hospitable to sea life. It provides habitat for marine species that are not found on the deeper ocean bottom. A seamount
may deflect deep currents and create upwelling. This process can bring nutrients into the photosynthetic zone. Producing an area of concentration of
organisms not normally found in an open ocean. Seamounts may be vital stopping points for some migratory animals. Predators like dolphin, blackfin
tuna, wahoo, billfish and other gamefish come to fed on squid, flying fish and other fish. This sub order of fish are feeding on the zooplanton.

Captain Lee Robinson is a USCG licensed charter fishing captain operating out of
Key Largo Florida. He has over 20 years experience as a Florida Keys fishing guide
and has fished these waters both commercially and recreationally.
Captain Lee specializes in live bait fishing during the winter months. This style of
fishing often involves slow trolling live baits, sightfishing, and or dangling them from
fishing kites to entice strikes from predatory species such as sailfish, wahoo, tuna,
king mackerel. Captain Lee also uses live bait to catch reef fish such as grouper,
snapper, and amberjack.
Captain Lee specializes in dolphin (mahi-mahi) fishing during the spring and
summer months where he and his crew troll offshore and sight fish for the dolphin
under birds, debris, and weed lines formed by the Gulfstream currents. While doing
this type of fishing marlin both blue and white can be caught along with sailfish, tuna
,and wahoo. Spring and summer is also a great time to bottom fish for grouper,
snapper, and amberjack amongst are deep reefs and wrecks. Summer is also the
best time for the daytime swordfish-dolphin combo trips because the seas are calm
and the days are long.
